Today was organized bedlam!!!!

We had all the Carrera and 3rd Basico students setting up the home economics room for the distribution of school supplies. We buy our supplies in Santiago and thus help a local business. We all the supplies come in boxes and we have to count everything to make sure we have not been shorted supplies. As you can imagine we have school supplies for 100 plus students this is tons of counting…but many hands make light work and the students enjoy helping.

 

To save money we order the paper in bulk and count it into 100 sheet packages. Vicki was in charge of this process. Then we had to set up display tables for our photographs. If you bought on of the $50 Christmas cards you bought supplies for one of the students today. Many students would not be going to Basico, elementary or high school without this help. The students take a considerable amount of time deciding on their backpacks and usually chose the small cheap ones rather than the sturdier but bigger ones..

The children then collected their supplies and proceeded to the photo shoot. This was run by Jaime and Senor Gris ( Graham).

 

The boy students in Carrera got to choose shoes from our Nanaimo Tennis Club shoe donation pile…eventhough the shoes are gently used they are far superior quality to anything Aldea Maya can buy locally and should last the students a year.

  
It makes ones heart feel so good to see all the happy children. We were also able to make a small donation of supplies to the elementary school. The teachers will distribute to the poorest students that have limited supplies.
