We took a group of middle school students on a wonderful field trip to San Juan la Laguna by boat. San Juan La Laguna is a picturesque Tzu’tujil village whose inhabitants works together with their mayor to create a dynamic village.
This village is very clean and vibrant. It has many different cooperatives that offer a cornucopia of different products.
Our first stop was at one of the many artist cooperatives.
The main artist explained the different painting techniques to the students. The students asked many questions and each student chose their favourite painting.
Our next stop was at the organic cotton, weaving and natural dying cooperative.
And finally how to back strap weave.
Our next stop was at the chocolate factory.
It was totally interesting watching how a cocoa bean was transformed into yummy chocolate. The free samples were a big hit.
We also visited an organic farm that makes shapoos and soaps as well as the Tzu’tujil School that is turning the oral Tzu’tujil language into a written language. It was a very busy, enjoyable day.
