Today is my first full day in Panajachel. The day is bright and sunny which is a change from yesterday afternoon when I nearly had to swim up the street!!!

Luckily there has been no big storms this rainy season and thus no mudslides.

It was awesome walking up the street and meeting old friends. I have already started ordering beadwork from some of the locals. There are few tourists in the rainy season and they are so happy to be able to make some money.

Next I walked to the market to buy food and visit with my garden lady Herlinda. Aldea Maya is planning on putting in one garden this trip and we started organizing plants for the vegetable garden.

Gladys and her mom, Maria, make the flannel sanitary pads. Maria was very pleased that we were ordering 20 sets of pads. She is 3 months behind in her rent. The money she earns will pay for 4 months rent. It is a ton of work making the pads so we headed off to the fabric store to get supplies.

Maria has moved homes several times in the last few years. She is a resourceful woman who is always looking to make her home life better. I noticed that she had stapled cardboard on the inner walls of her home to help stop the incoming draft. As she has moved around and taken her onil stove with her I checked inside the stove as it does not move well. The inner sand and metal are far from great…I will see if Mayan Families can come and rebuild the stove.

On this trip we will be visiting all our families and checking the status of their water filter. We plan on replacing the inner ceramic filters in January. We are going to be taking photos of each family for the water filter Christmas cards. This family will need 2 new ceramic candelas…one family down….only 51 more to visit!!!

Tomorrow plan on visiting Chukumuk as it is will be Sunday and I hope families will be home
