Tons of moms and students gave me beautiful beadwork and weaving as thanks for all the work ALDEA MAYA does in the village.

Every girl in grade 6 received underwear and flannel sanitary pads. They were a bit embarrassed but really wanted them.

Between receiving gifts lots of pictures were taken for next years Christmas cards.

I had been asked to stay until 12:30 by the Basico Director. All the Basico students were in their classroom and hour before school started. The Basico Director was also dressed in traditional clothes. He gave a wonderful speech thanking ALDEA MAYA for making this school possible. Then some of the students got up and gave thanks

Next they gave me a beautiful handwoven and embroidered Guipil that the students had all helped buy. This is an amazing gift.. and I am starting to cry again as I write this. I gave a speech explaining how important education is if one wants to stop the cycle of poverty. I told them to dream big and study hard.

As I was about to leave one of the boys got up to give me a bracelette with my name on it and 2 rings he had made. This young man is one of the students that is only able to go to Basico because of our Christmas card sales. He stood up gave me his gift and proceeded to burst into tears. He hugged me for 5 minutes in front of all his peers sobbing away and thanking me for making it possible for him to go to school. When you think it is only grade 7 and it is difficult for students to go to school you see how unfair the world can be.

If I ever doubted that ALDEA MAYA is making a difference, I know for sure we are contibuting in a possitive way in this village.
