The Tzu’tujil Mayan embroider their traditional clothing. In addition, the school uniforms for the women include a hand woven guipil ( blouse) and a woven skirt ( corte) The women weave the guipil on a backstrap loom. And the men weave the corte on a large loom. One of our volunteers , Melissa, had the chance to try backstrap weaving when we walked through the village.
Here is one of our students , Ana, receiving her woven fabric. She will turn this into a top and embroider it.

One of our students moms weaves our fabric. Here she is with her latest weaving.

We were donated several containers of embroidery thread. The students and their moms enjoyed picking out colours for their next embroidery project.
