Took boat ride to Panajachel today. It has been windy so it was a bit difficult exiting the boat, It was fun being back in Pana and seeing old friends. Stopped at Patti’s Casa Alegre and picked up all the toilet rolls she has been collecting for our build a mini greenhouse project. Only the families with money purchase toilet paper, most families use old newspaper in the bathroom, Therefore we need to collect from other sources.

Next we bumped into Rich Burkhe and his lovely wife. They have a wonderful charity that builds wooden beds for families. They very generously donated one last year to a family in Chuk Muk. Shirley, one of our volunteers in February, has purchased a mattress which she will use for a week and then donate to a family. We organized for Rich to build a bedframe. He only will charge us for the cost of the wood!!!!!! I will add a link for his charity later.

Our next stop was at Porch de Solomon. This is a wonderful charity organization that has sponsorship and building programs. They also have two  A.A. meetings a week. We met with the Manager Noe Perez. Our wee group had picked up an old friend, Marta from USA, and Noe gave us a tour and explanation about Porch de Solomon   www.porchdesolomon.org

Next we were off to our building site. We have partnered with Porch de Solomon to build Jasmin’s family a home. Several years ago Bowser Elementary Schools’s grade 3 class ( Ms. Stepp) fundraised and bought a piece of land for Jasmin. Jasmin is 10 and has Rheumatiod Arthritis. Her mother, Rosario, has herniated disc’s in her spine and can barely work. Their are 2 older children. The father abandoned them about 9 years ago.

We were able to supply $3,000 US towards the building costs. Thanks to Ivy Turner’s Golf event in 2013, Arrowview Elementary School’s grade 5 class ( Ms. Waters), Winchelsea Elementary’s grade 5 class and a lovely lady in Courtenay whose name I cannot recall right now…..AAARGH menopause!!!

Porch de Solomon raised the remaining money. We heard about Porch de Solomon about 3 years ago from the principal at Timberline High School in Campbell River. The school had gone on a amazing building adventures with Porch de Solomon .

While Vicki, Jaime and I were having a lovely relaxing time in Panajachel, Senor Gris ( Graham), Pedro and 3 students were off in the back roads of Panabaj shoveling cow manure and coffee poop ( fermenting coffee kernels). They collected 25  80 pound sacks. These will be used in the new school garden.
