Went to Chukumuk by road today in the Mayan Families truck. I had organized to buy beadwork from numerous people in the last week. Well they all showed up today. I am very tired of getting 20 or more people trying to get as close to me as possible and all trying to sell to me at the same time.
I managed to get the group to stand beside the school and approach me one at a time. This was not easy as my Spanish is not brilliant and half the women do not even speak Spanish.
I was able to purchase a ton of lovely beadwork. I pay good prices and that is one reason everyone and their dog wants to sell to me.

The great thing about having so many women there was I was able to give the womens sanitary packages to 10 of our families.
Dolores is in the truck because it was raining soooo hard
My next stop was to head to Panabaj to give our sponsor student Dolores her sanitary packge. This is the third girl in this family to receive them and they really like them.

I then returned to Chukumuk to see how the Basico is doing. All the students went to the extra math tutorial on Saturday and they said it really helped them. They have 3 more 3 hour Saturday math classes before they write their exams.
The students had a spare and I decided it would be fun to have a impromptu English class. We practiced all they had learned so far and I helped them on the pronunciation. Then we went through greeting and finally the parts of the body. It was great fun.
The Spanish teacher arrived and I was able to observe a class. The students were really well behaved and interested in the work.
It was then time for my meeting with the Basico teachers, director and the head of the parents board. I got the teachers to make a wishlist of items that they need for next year and what they would like.
We do not have an area for the wood working class….nor do we have any tools. I suggested using one of the old metal building on the school site. Everyone thought that was a good idea so I will ask the school director tommorrow.
