We are down to our last 3 days of our trip.On the boat over to Chukumuk we met 2 girls from Chile who are working in the highlands near the Mexican border. This area has no easily accessible water. They are working with a Canadian org. called Fog Quest. They string up speacialized netting and condence the water present in fog. This is so neat!!!! Only potatoes grow easily in this area and they are going to now try ALDEA MAYA’s mini greehouse project to start their vegetable seeds
We also met a young Guatemalan Dietitian. She is working on breast feeding and nutrition projects. It is great to see the government hiring nutritionists. She wanted to know all about our projects. We are going to keep in contact and work with her in the future.
After the great boat ride headed to Chukumuk. The last of the grade 3 classes had their nutrition class on Vitamin A and C. We then decided to try a new cooking class. We made fruit salad with the class. The teacher was really pleased as she was concerned that the students rarely eat fruits ( or vegetables) The grade 3 class loved making and eating this yummy treat!!!!
Next it was off to visit every class to confirm what grade each of our sponsor students is in. We are going to give this list to the director on Tuesday. Then he will be able to directly email ALDEA MAYA the report cards when the students receive them…definitely speeding up the process. This will also enable us to see how each student is proforming and fix a problem before it is too late.

We then started to take the pictures that we will need for the 2012 Christmas cards. There are 60 students in grade 6 that will be in our Basico next year. We are going to have to work hard if we are going to be able to help them attend our school.
We gave Rita Levitz’s sponsor student Elena a picture of Rita. The students are so interested in receiving these picture and often ask me questions about their sponsors.
Then a bunch of grade one students wanted to show off their new running shoes that our Christmas cards bought. These shoes make such a difference for the students in their P.E. classes.
